For the first time the African Caribbean Pacific Young Professionals Network (ACP YPN) will be represented at the European Development Days (EDDs). Our ACP YPN Ambassadors will share the platform with the ONE Campaign, the United Nations Development programme (UNDP) and the EU Committee of the Regions for the following youth-led sessions:
Recipes for ending hunger (Wednesday, 15 June 2016 at 14.15 in B2)
Win-win solutions for migration: How to leverage the benefits of migration for development (Thursday, June 16, 2016 – 09:15 in D2)
Localising the Sustainable Development Goals (Thursday, June 16 2016 at 09.15 in D5)
These sessions will be complemented by the ACP YPN interactive stand in collaboration with ONE Campaign in the EDD’s Development Village.
Youth issues are rising high on the agenda for governments and international organisations. The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has highlighted the non-negligible role that young people play as the “torch bearers” of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yentyl Williams, Founder & President of ACP YPN explains, “Young people must play an active role in the implementation of the SDGs, after all we are both the generation that will inherit the legacy of SDGs and the authors of the future post-2030 Agenda. Moreover, as there is no single ‘youth SDG’ and young people are mentioned just five times in the 169 SDG targets, young people and policy-makers must work together at different levels to achieve the future that the SDGs promise”
ACP YPN is an entirely youth-led organisation based in Brussels, advocating for greater inclusion of diverse youth perspectives in policy-making at the EU and ACP levels. ACP YPN is committed to providing a platform where ACP youth can speak with one voice and actively participate in shaping the world they want to live in, and the future of EU-ACP relations, through participation and contribution in high-level debates and social events.
