On International Youth Day 2016, ACP YPN founder, Yentyl Williams, was featured as one of three young people driving change in the world by the European Commission. Here is the interview with Yentyl and the article, which recognises that ‘young people are not just leaders of the future – they are leaders of today.’
This article follows up from Yentyl’s interview at #EDD16 in which she explains why it was important to set up the ACP YPN and why the ACP Secretariat must offer internships to ACP youth. She also explains why young people must be involved in the Sustainable Development Goals. In her words, “The time for empowerment and transformative action really is now or never: youth must be involved in development.”
In this interview she explains the vision of the ACP YPN, and how implementing article 26 of the EU-ACP Cotonou Partnership Agreement can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals: ‘We all believe in the spirit of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement and true partnership and joint cooperation between EU and ACP on youth issues. We’re here and ready to implement Article 26, not just until 2020 [when Cotonou ends] but beyond, including the Agenda 2030‘.
